When high school junior Sara wins a coveted scholarship to study ballet, she must sacrifice everything for her new life as a professional dancer-in-training. Living in a strange city with a host family, she's deeply lonely-until she falls into the arms of Remington, a choreographer in his early twenties. At first, she loves being Rem's muse, but as she discovers a surprising passion for writing, she begins to question whether she's chosen the right path. Is Rem using her, or is it the other way around? And is dancing still her dream, or does she need something more? This debut novel in verse is as intense and romantic as it is eloquent.

I'm thrilled to be stopping at The Story today to share some behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the AUDITION book trailer. As a debut novelist, I feel like I still have a lot to learn about book trailers. I love to watch them and count among my favorites Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel (by VLC Productions) and the amazing animations of Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races (with her own music!).

AUDITION is the story of a teen ballerina, the dance she helps inspire bad-boy choreographer Remington create, and the interplay between dance and words. For me, it was important to have a real dancer featured in the trailer. I was lucky enough to have an award-winning competitive dancer and an up-and-coming young filmmaker right in my town, who were excited to work on this project. So, without further ado, here is some footage from the AUDITION trailer shoot, including some shots of me in "choreographer mode." I hope we captured the rawness, the creativity, and the intensity of rehearsals described in the novel.

What do you think about book trailers? How should the themes and plotlines of a novel affect the imagery or style of the trailer? Seen any extra-good trailers lately?
