As if trying to fit in at a new school isn't stressful enough, sixteen-year-old Nikki Donovan just found out that her long-lost father is, in fact, the demon king of the Shadowlands—the world that separates and protects us from the Underworld. When she is brought there by the mysterious—and surprisingly cute—messenger Michael, she learns that her father is dying, and he wants her to assume the throne. To complicate matters, a war is brewing between the Shadowlands and the Underworld, her half-demon qualities are manifesting, and her gowing feelings for Michael are completely forbidden. Ruling a kingdom, navigating a secret crush, and still making it home by curfew—what's a teenage demon princess to do?
Three words; cute, quick, fun!

I was expecting something a little "darker" since this novel had that whole demon thing going for it, but it ended up being on the lighter, humorous side.

It was a great first novel to a series. A lot of introductions and plot openings, but it didn't feel like you were just reading the back-story for the beginning of a series. Nikki was a funny, insecure and likable character and I'm really looking forward to reading more about her and her adventures.

The writing is really easy to read and enjoy. The plot flowed nicely and all of the characters were well developed. Although, I did have most of the plot twists figured out well before Nikki. I'm interested to see if there is anything revealed about Melinda's character in the future novels... could there have a been a little foreshadowing we witnessed there?

Recommended if you want to read something cute & entertaining, with a little romance and a side of demons!
