One of the questions that I get asked the most is:

"Does (insert book title here) count toward the challenge?"

In doing a little research yourself, you can usually find out if a novel is a debut or not. But in case you don't have the time or know how, I've tried to make few lists for you to reference. Please remember that we try to make these list as complete as possible, but we might miss a few here or there.

If you can't find what you think is a debut novel on this list, please do the research and determine if it is yourself.

Traveling ARC Tour

One of the biggest reasons I get for not signing up for the challenge or for not completing the challenge is:

"I can't afford to buy that many books and my library doesn't carry them."

I feel your pain. I really do! That's why this year I decided that a traveling ARC tour for challenge participants might be a good idea.

Lisa at Lisa is Busy Nerding & Tara at Fiction Folio will be running the site. I'll be helping out too, but it'll be more behind the scenes stuff... like providing ARCs! We're still working on figuring this whole tour thing out. So please be patient with us!

If you are an author or publisher that wants to donate an ARC or a finished copy of a 2012 debut for the Traveling ARC/Book Tour please contact Lisa or Tara.

Debut Author Challenge Newsletter

I attempted to start this last year, but ultimately I couldn't find the time to work it in, so it died. I had a lot of interest in it, so I decided to try again with it this year.

Shanyn at Chick Loves Lit will be in charge of the monthly newsletter! She has experience with this sort of thing too, so it should be FABULOUS!

Basically the newsletter will keep you up to date on what's happening with the DAC!

GIVEAWAYS

There will no longer be monthly prize packs! Nor will participants be asked to link their reviews monthly.

However, there will be fantastic giveaways for challenge participants only! More on that later...

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do the debuts have to have a release date of 2012?

A: Yes. Only debuts released during 2012 will count toward the challenge.

Q: Do the debuts have to be Middle Grade or Young Adult novels?

A: Yes. To qualify for this challenge the debuts must be in the MG or YA category.

Q: Some of these authors already have books published why are they on the list?

A: There are several reasons why they may be on the debut list. If an author has an adult general fiction or a children's book previously published but are debuting a YA or MG in 2012 they count toward the challenge.

In addition if an author had a self published novel, but are now published with a traditional publisher they also count toward the challenge.

An author may have several novels in one country but may be debuting in another country.

Q: Do self published novels or novels from smaller presses count toward the challenge.

A: Yes.

Q: (Insert title here) is debuting in the US, but I live in the UK. Will this title count toward my challenge total?

A: It depends. If a novel is debuting in another country and is not published in your country, yes. If a novel is debuting in another country but has already been published in your country, no.

For Example: Michelle Hodkin's The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was a debut in the US for 2011. It will be released in the UK in 2012. That means that UK readers can use it as a 2012 debut, but US readers cannot.

Q: What if I read a 2012 debut before January 1, 2012, does it still count?

A: No. Only books read between the dates of January 1, 2012 - January 31, 2013 will count toward your challenge total.

Q: Do eBooks count?

A: As long as it's an eBook of a 2012 debut, than yes.
