Kristin Cashore Blog Tour: Getting to Know the Characters of Fire & CONTEST

Today is the last day of the fifteen stop tour for Kristin Cashore's blog tour for Fire (which I just realized I was supposed to have posted today! Please forgive me for the late post!!), her latest novel which comes out October 5th, and is a companion novel to her very popular book Graceling! The tour has been making the rounds for three weeks, starting at The Compulsive reader on September 14th and ending here at The Story, October 2nd. Don't forget to Twitter about this awesome tour and use the hashtag #firetour! At each stop Kristin has reveal a little bit about each character and today we end with FIRE!

About the most awesome character in the novel, Fire:

Fire. The last remaining humqn monster in the Dells. Intangibly beautiful, with the wildest, craziest hair you’ve ever seen, she has the power to read and control minds, and she hates it, hates hates HATES it. It’s the same power her father, Cansrel, had, and look what it did to him; look what he did to the world around him. Now, when her kingdom needs her, can she find a way to forgive herself for terrible secrets; to stand up to those who hate and disrespect her; to undo her father’s wrongs, and be who she was born to be?

If that doesn't intrigue you enough here is a little bit more information about FIRE:

Fire, Graceling's prequel-ish companion book, takes place across the mountains to the east of the seven kingdoms, in a rocky, war-torn land called the Dells.

Beautiful creatures called monsters live in the Dells. Monsters have the shape of normal animals: mountain lions, dragonflies, horses, fish. But the hair or scales or feathers of monsters are gorgeously colored-- fuchsia, turquoise, sparkly bronze, iridescent green-- and their minds have the power to control the minds of humans.

Seventeen-year-old Fire is the last remaining human-shaped monster in the Dells. Gorgeously monstrous in body and mind but with a human appreciation of right and wrong, she is hated and mistrusted by just about everyone, and this book is her story.

Wondering what makes it a companion book/prequel? Fire takes place 30-some years before Graceling and has one cross-over character with Graceling, a small boy with strange two-colored eyes who comes from no-one-knows-where, and who has a peculiar ability that Graceling readers will find familiar and disturbing...
