The Darkangel

The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce

The Darkangel is book one of the Darkangel Trilogy. When Aeriel’s mistress and friend Eoduin is stolen by the darkangel, she seeks revenge. Only to be captured herself she is forced to serve for his thirteen brides. The brides where once beautiful women, including Eoduin, but the darkangel drained them of their blood and has captured their souls leaving only their withering bodies. Once the darkangel has taken his fourteenth and finaly bride he will become a powerful vampyre. Aeriel decides she must help free their souls and save them from the darkangel. So she embarks on a journey to discover the only way to kill a darkangel, but when the time comes will she be able to banish his evil or will she see the spark of goodness that still remains.

If you are looking for a vampire book, I wouldn’t bother with The Darkangel, even though he is somewhat of a vampyre. But if you are looking for a good fantasy book, then I would recommend this one. Aeriel is a very strong and brave character even though she believes that she lacks courage. I didn’t really come to love the darkangel as she did, but I did understand her pitying him. Most likely I will be reading the rest of this trilogy. A Gathering of Gargoyles is the second book, followed by Pearl of the Soul of the World.
